Sea of Serenity

Sea of Serenity

Some landscapes seem to change continually, looking different every day, but some seem to remain timeless. As I looked at this scene I imagined it, thousands of years ago or thousands hence, still on it’s serene watch over the sea.

Free, Solo

One of the photographers I strongly admire, Hiroshi Sugimoto, has a fascination with seascapes which I fervently share. The ocean, when simply framed, is compelling to me in its simplicity of form yet complexity of detail. It reminds me in a way of a Rothko painting, which at first glance is stark and simplistic in appearance, but when looked at more closely is intricate in minute pattern.
Starkness often draws me to a scene, and here, that starkness is broken only by one solo bird in flight.
